A is pretty much accepted that CFL’s are not the flattering in the home. People seem to tolerate fluorescent lighting in the workplace but do not like it in their house. The idea of saving money is always appealing and being more eco-conscious is becoming more common. I have played with many ways to green your home and the ideas below are solutions that people seem to be able to live with.
1) CFL’s
Use them sparingly. They work well in table lamps and floor lamps. They do not dim well so don’t try to dim them. As long as the lamp is completely hidden and it is a good quality lamp you should be okay. When choosing the CFL make sure it is a name brand. You are safe using a 2700k color. The higher the number the cooler the color of the lamp. 2700k is the color of incandescent lighting.
2) Dimmers
Put dimmers on everything and get used to using them. You will thank yourself if you do. Dimming sets the right mood and lights don’t have to be on at full brightness all of the time. Dimming saves money on the electric bill and they extend the life of the light bulbs. Dimming just 10% doubles the life of the bulb. The more you dim the longer the life of the lamp gets extended.
