Kenall’s Parking Garage Fixture Receives Highest Lighting Facts Efficacy Rating

Kenall Manufacturing is pleased to announce that our new TekDek LED parking garage luminaire has earned the highest efficacy rating of all parking garage fixtures within the Lighting Facts® program. As a member of the Department of Energy’s (DOEs) LED Quality Advocates, Kenall Manufacturing has pledged to include a Lighting Facts Label for all of the LED luminaires we produce. The label reports product performance results in five areas from actual test data in accordance with industry standards measuring photometric performance of LEDs, including: luminaire light output, efficacy (lumens per watt), measured power (watts), correlated color temperature, and color rendering index.

Kenall’s TekDek™ luminaire returned the following impressive Lighting Facts results:
· Light Output (Lumens) 5600
· Efficacy (Lumens per Watt) 100
· Measured power (Watts) 56
· Correlated Color Temperature 5700K
· Color Rendering Index 70

TekDek’s powerful efficacy rating is the highest in the parking garage lighting category within the Lighting Facts program. When used together with the SmartSense control system, which intelligently monitors both occupancy and daylight, parking garage light levels are adjusted throughout the day to provide facility owners’ significant cost and energy savings. In combination with a low cost of entry, SmartSense provides payback in as little as 14 months.

Cree LEDway® Luminaires to Replace More than 3,600 Antiquated Street Lights

DURHAM, N.C., January 23, 2012 — Taking steps to improve energy efficiency and reduce its overall carbon footprint, the City of Asheville has initiated North Carolina’s first large-scale deployment of LED street lights. There are 3,643 LEDway® street lights from Durham-based manufacturer Cree, Inc. (Nasdaq: CREE) being installed, with projected savings of $260,000 annually.

In the initial phase of the project, completed in June 2011, 730 street lights in Asheville’s River District and Kenilworth neighborhoods were replaced with 67-watt to 195-watt LEDway luminaires, estimated to save the City $45,000 in annual energy costs. An additional 2,913 LEDway street lights are currently being installed, and the City anticipates saving 50 percent of current energy use and maintenance costs due to the LED upgrade.

“Upgrading to LED street lights allows us to decrease energy consumption, increase energy efficiency and contribute to the sustainability of our community,” said Maggie Ullman, energy coordinator for the Asheville Office of Sustainability. “This exciting initiative helps affirm Asheville’s role as a leader in carbon footprint reduction.”

Asheville’s city-wide street light upgrade project complies with the City Council’s 2008 lighting ordinance, designed to reduce glare and light pollution. In 2009, Asheville City Council unanimously approved using Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grants, part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), to fund efficiency initiatives, including the first phase of the street light replacement. The revolving fund rolls energy savings back into the city’s green and efficiency initiatives.

Progress Energy, which serves the City of Asheville, provides N.C. Utilities Commission-approved rate tables to its customers that choose LED street lights. In addition to helping its customers understand the energy cost savings of LED technology, Progress Energy provides the option of renting or owning LED lighting fixtures.

“As more municipalities commit to replacing outdated, inefficient lighting with the support of their local utilities, LED adoption and consumer awareness continue to increase,” said Christopher Ruud, president of Ruud Lighting, a Cree Company. “We applaud the City of Asheville and Progress Energy for working together for the benefit of its citizens demonstrating the growing trend of cities and municipalities working together to join the LED lighting revolution.”

About Cree
Cree is leading the LED lighting revolution and making energy-wasting traditional lighting technologies obsolete through the use of energy-efficient, mercury-free LED lighting. Cree is a market-leading innovator of lighting-class LEDs, LED lighting, and semiconductor products for power and radio-frequency (RF) applications.

January 2012 – WattStopper has introduced the rugged FSP-211 Digital High/Low Passive Infrared Fixture Integrated Outdoor Sensor to conveniently control lighting in areas such as parking facilities, gas stations, pedestrian pathways and warehouses. The sensor, which was accepted into the prestigious 2011 IES Progress Report, mounts in a lighting fixture and provides motion-based multi-level control combined with optional hold off daylighting control. Its unique feature set provides the flexibility to quickly and easily customize control parameters for each project to ensure energy savings while also addressing security concerns. All parameters are adjustable via a wireless configuration tool capable of storing and transmitting multiple sensor profiles.

The sensor is specifically engineered for use in LED fixtures; it can withstand the high temperatures produced by LED lighting, and its relay will last for the life of the fixture. The FSP-211 also works with fluorescent lighting, including 0-10V dimmable ballasts. When installed in an outdoor fixture, it is IP66 rated, impervious to dust and powerful water jets. A choice of four lenses ensures complete coverage for mounting heights ranging from 8’ to 40’, making the sensor suitable for virtually any application.

The FSP-211 is the first fixture-integrated motion sensor to feature two fully adjustable lighting levels plus off. It delivers design levels for high and low modes, preventing over-lighting and maximizing energy efficiency. An integral photocell measures the ambient light level and can hold lighting off, or at low level, when there is sufficient daylight contribution. All adjustments are made with a wireless handheld infrared (IR) tool, and the hold off setpoint includes an automatic calibration option for added convenience. The wireless configuration tool can store and send up to five sensor profiles, including all parameters, to significantly speed project commissioning.

WattStopper Product Line Manager Daniel Trevino is proud that the FSP-211 was selected for the 2011 IES (Illuminating Engineering Society) Progress Report. “The committee appreciated the numerous benefits this product provides to lighting fixture manufacturers, electrical contractors and building owners, from its remarkable versatility to the ease of configuration using a handheld remote,” Trevino says. The IES Progress Committee’s annual report recognizes new products that contribute “unique and significant advancements to the art and science of lighting.”
